> Where can I download RSHstation ?
RSHstation is enclosed in RUPSDK (http://ruputer.com/support/software/tool.html).
Download RUPSDK.ZIP then download an english version of RshStation.exe on my page
(http://perso.club-internet.fr/janonad/ruputer.html) and change it in your "RupSDK\bin\" directory...
> Is there a "Step by step guide" for occidental people ?
Step One :
Learn some options of the japanese system menu (look @
http://janus.free.fr/rupuse.html or Anton's page) :
-How to rename files (and directory)
-How to delete files (and directory)
You can delete files and directories named in japanese (calc, world, watch,
timer, chrono)
Don't delete SYSTEM directory and files under this directory
(There is a backup of the files of the watch without japanese names @
http://janus.free.fr/rupuse.html#backup)
Step Two :
Download translated applications (exf) from the web
http://janus.free.fr/rupuse.html#exf - Thanks to Aaron, Anton, Danny, Glenn
and me)
Step Three :
With Ruputer Shell Station (application provided with SDK :
http://ruputer.com/support/software/tool.html *), create directories you
need (e.g. \GAMES, \TOOLS, \CLOCKS, \PIM\JOB, \PIM\HOME,...) in the language
you want (use "create dir" function of the Ruputer Shell Station to create
the directory )...
*Jun HIROTOMI send me a version with bug fixed (download it @
http://janus.free.fr/rstation_us.zip)
Step Four :
With Ruputer Shell Station, upload on the watch the files you want :
programs (exf) and datas (csv, txt, vtx, scl,...) in the directory you want
(use "change dir" function of the Ruputer Shell Station to defined the
directory ).
Step Five :
You have to modify FILER.INI (in SYSTEM directory) in order to launch
automatically an application (located in \SYSTEM\APPS\) when you press ENTER
with a data file selected (e.g. When you press ENTER with a .SCL file
selected, RUPUTER launch SCLVIEW.EXF and open the selected .SCL file because
FILER.INI contains the link between the extension of a file and the
application needed to open this file... phew!).
To do this, upload and use the good program FINIED.EXF !
Step Six :
Impress people ;-)
> Why RUPUTER ?
RUPUTER = RUn + comPUTER.
> Is it possible to transfer files from Ruputer to PC with the help of RSHstation ?
Yes it is.
> Is there something for Macintosh users ?
Two programs to upload and download data To Ruputer, using a Macintosh : one is Mac2RupCom, which is only for uploading to Ruputer, and the other one
is RuputerCom, which is able to upload and download data from Ruputer to Mac, and vice-versa.
The author's homepage is : http://pegasus.akita-noken.go.jp/provide/mc/other/rupWebManual/
also, further information about these programs can be found at : http://member.nifty.ne.jp/shimozato/index.htm
You can use these two programs, and built the custom cable (which is described in the above mentioned URL) to connect the Docking station of Ruputer to my Macintosh, and they work great !
Look at RuputerCom.html for an automatical translation...
> How do you translate the applications of the Ruputer (.exf) into French, German, English ?
You can easily do that : you look at the ideograms on the screen of the ruputer, you find these ideograms pages 176 (and next)of the manual, you look at the codes besides them, and you search these codes in the exf with an hexa-editor. So, you
will be able to change the japanese string by what you want.
> I don't speak japanese. Is there some way to translate easily japanese documents ?
Peter Ljungstrand has been using an automatic translation tool (TransLingo - free trial version
at www.translingo.com, 25MB) to translate some of the Ruputer SDK documents
into English. The translation is not correct in any way, but it
is *much* more readable than the original Japanese files. It can be used to
translate Japanese web pages on-the-fly !
Check for yourself here:
http://www.viktoria.informatik.gu.se/~peter/ruputer/.
> What are delimited files? could you explain? and please tell me more about CSVview.exf.
Delimited files (viewable as text files) are used to store data (extension is .csv). It allows you to view and search data as you can do with a
database. Data (fields) are separated by ",", a line corresponding to a record.
Translation of the menu :
---------------------
return
exit
search (find)
filter(extract) mode
-return
-filter by input keyword
-filter by current (selected) item
-exit filter mode
sort
go to top record
option
-return
-lines per screen (font size)
--return
--5 (default)
--6
--8
-paging direction
--return
--default direction :
...Left/Right: Change the "Record".
...Up/Down: Change the "Item".
--reverse direction
...Left/Right: Change the "Item".
...Up/Down: Change the "Record".
about (version info)
---------------------
Be advised that CSV viewer is executed only when CSV file is done from filer.
It means that you cannot run CSVVIEW.EXF itself. Before you start with CSV viewer,
you must edit B:\SYSTEM\FILER.INI to associate (connect) ".CSV" filename extention with CSVviewer.
This procedure requires a little bit difficult skill to beginners, because
FILER.INI is not a text file. You must use "fiedit(v0.10)" or "RupRltEd(v1.21)", or another binary file editor.
> I was wondering if anybody could help making my bmp to mmp and vice a versa. I have the programs, I just do not know how to use them.
Steps :
1-Place the images in the same directory as the BMP2MMP and MMP2BMP applications.
2-Open up a DOS window. Go to the directory you're BMP2MMP and MMP2BMP applications are.
3-Run either
MMP2BMP <from_file.MMP> <to_file.BMP>
or
BMP2MMP <from_file.BMP> <to_file.MMP>
> I have not been able to get into the Latin alphabet to input my storage information (names, phone #'s, addresses, access codes, etc).
I can get into the Japanese alphabet and characters but thats all. The Latin is there but it will not allow me to put in information about people, places and things.
I once entered a line using the Latin but it disappeared. Do you have any suggestions ?
Look at the buttons on the right side of the keyboard, there you can choose wide/small, big/small letters, delete, space, CHANGE KEYBOARD, return and OK.
After pressing the key for "change keyboard", you can choose from 9 keyboards : hiragana, katakana, phrases, latin, numbers, icons, romaji, special chars, hex-input
And yeah: romaji is the latin alphabet, but after you enter chars, they're converted to japanese letters..
If you still tryed the latin keyboard, enter the line and press "ok" and got problems, there seems to be an error in the PIM of the Pro4 ...
> Do you understand functions of 98.EXF ?
It's a new watch - or may we say: a watch screen / power saver... If you choose the first line in (spack)98.exf and there, turn the
first item to on, you can adjust the time in the second line when the screen saver should start.
In the third line you can choose the type of the watch. With the fourth line you go to a sub-menu where you can edit the time how long the ruputer should be turned
off and the time how long the ruputer should be turned on - or, if you 've choosen not to display a watch, but a picture, the name of the MMP-file in \system\mmp\.
In the last line you can test the settings. And if you've accepted these settings (2x ENTER) and exited this 98.exf, start another program, wait for the time you've choosen
(as above mentioned) and your ruputer will "flash" the time, turning on&off for the specified time (I would suggest something like "1s on, 1s off" or ".75s on, 1.25s off").
It's mostly useable to save battery...
BTW, the settings of the real power-saver you made in the filer-menu aren't changed. So if you've set the time of the screen-saver higher than the time of the power-saver,
you wouldn't notice the screen-saver :^)
> Is there a difference in programming between the Pro and the Pro4 ?
I thought, only the size of the flash and pre-installed application differs..
> I want to set alarms but i don't know how. i even don't know how to enter in ALARM mode.
Start the watch-application. Some freeware-watches also have the alarm settings (like dawatch, for example). Sounds file are in SYSTEM/SOUND directory ; place there at least one
.SND file... otherwise, ALARM would not work.
> I wanted some appointments but had no luck, too (are they .SCL??).
SCL=schedule, yeah. when you see the calendar, you can add appointments...
> How can i use that russian font to type the entries in .ADR or in other applications ?
Choose the keyboard with the hex-input and type for example "839F" for the first russian char.. see the character-table in the manual (page 176+, there you have the
whole japanese font of the ruputer). It's not that easy to type using HEX (for one char you must enter 4 chars) but it feels very good to read native language !
> I don't know how can i force the world map to appear.
Start the world-watch-application ,-) The icon shows a world besides the ruputer, btw ,-)
Maybe you've deleted too much? No problem, on the CD there is the whole pre-installed sofware...
> I want the watch to stay for more than 1 second when i press FILER/TIME once. is it possible?
Start one of the thousand watch-applications. Or hold the filer/time-button pressed.
> How can i change date format. by default it is mm/dd and in the .SCLs it is yy/mm/dd. how can i change it to dd/mm and to dd/mm/yy??
That's a japanese software. Japanese have yy/mm/dd everytime. So don't expect that feature .-) Anyway, writing a date in yy/mm/dd - format is pretty more
logical than our european dd.mm.yy - format ..
> Did someone try the utility which seems to deal with password (it has icon - 'the lock')? can i protect the whole OS from reading, deleting etc. by someone else ?
Only the items in the pim-software which are marked as "secret" are hided if you start the password-application and set the password.
So if you want to show hidden entries in the PIM-software, you have to de-set the password in the password-application.
Miscellaneous
As the ruputer recognizes the files by the extension, you can have more than one address/note/calendar/.... and they don't have to have a japanese name..
More ? Look at SII FAQ (light) URL in English...
